Ham and Legs Show #036
Ham and Legs were honored to have Frank Schaeffer on this week's show. He is the best selling author of Keeping Faith and Crazy For God, he has a new book out now called Patience With God: Faith for People Who Don't Like Religion (or Atheism). He was kind enough to let us interview him about his new book and how he broke away from the Religious Right he helped found with his father Francis Schaeffer. We've posted a link to his website, so go check it out!
Ham explained why she prefers Thanksgiving over Christmas, read the GOP purity pledge, discussed how the Gun Lobby is claiming the Senate health care bill will take away your guns....you read right.....and Legs and Ham spoke about the Adam Lambert controversy.
So, we hope you enjoy this week's show!

Interesting show. I like that you can have Mr. Schaeffer on the phone and broadcast it in your pod cast but you can't have listeners on the phone and do the same thing like I told you that you could do. You did exactly what I told you to do weeks ago regarding listeners calling in for this guest. Did you ask him to buy thousands of dollars of equipment Jody? Interesting. Anyway, there is no god, period, and religion is a crutch for weak minded people. You don't have to prove a negative Jody, you said that you can't prove that god does not exist just like you can't prove that god does exist. Nothing exists logically if you can't prove it exists. If there are things that do exist that we have not discovered then we do not know they exist until they are discovered and can be proven. You don't prove that something does not exist, that was a ridiculous statement. I truly believe that people that believe in god are literally insane. To base your live on something that is a figment of your imagination is a very big sign of weakness and probably insanity. The bible is a fairy tale just like Peter Pan or Santa Claus, nothing more. Anyway, got to go, I think I see the Virgin Mary in a potato chip, LOL!

Kenny,
We had to scramble to get the gear to interview Mr. Schaeffer...there is no way for a listener to listen to our broadcast while we record it UNLESS they are in the room. We RECORDED his interview...like we record our show. It was quite the feat. We DO NOT HAVE the capability to do what you seek. Sorry. Not here. You wanna buy us, at minimum price, a piece of gear that costs $500...feel free. It costs $50/day to rent....but I digress.
Did you suggest there is no Santa??? ... There is a Santa...and Easter Bunny....and Great Pumpkin....we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm pleased that you enjoyed the interview. I'm hoping we do more, either in studio, or that on the phone. It is a bit nerve-wracking but with three so far under our belts, I think we do just fine.
The circular conversation with yourself had me a bit confused. I think you'd find Mr. Schaeffer's book quite interesting, if not enlightening, Kenny.
Is your hostility towards those that believe equal to those that don't believe? Regardless, I'm not arguing for either side. Faith, religion, and even politics is obviously very personal. I don't blame a persons faith, religion, or politics based on one, or even a handful of people. If I did, I might as well blame them for the color of their hair, their skin, their gender, or sexual preference.
Again, I'm glad you enjoyed the show, we hope to do more of this kind, and I really appreciate you listening in, commenting, and hangin' yourself out there.

Actually I am not hostile at all, sometimes the written word comes across a little different than the feelings the person had when it was written. You make some very valid points, as awlays but I must disagree, and I am quite surprised that you would say this, on you comments comparing someones decision to believe in soemthing that doesn't exist and conduct their lives based on that ridiculous believe, to someones hair color, skin color, gender or sexual preference. I really don't see how these things are even in the same realm as someone choosing to believe in a fairy tale and basing their lives and everyday decisions on this brainwashing. These other things you mention, skin color, etc are something that a person is given and has no control over, they do howefver, have control over what they believe and don't believe and how they conduct themselves in our society. It is my personal opinion that anyone who believews in something so ridiculous as god is broderline insane. How scary is it that we have grown men and women running this country based on their beliefs in a fairytale? What if the president of the United States gave a speach and with al of his heart said at the end of it "Santa Claus bless this country"? Wouldn't you think he was a little off? This is somehting I can't help, when I meet someone who truely believes in god and bases everyday decisions on that fairytale, the bible, I lose any respect I may have had for them and I find them weak. How can I look up top someone or respect them if I think they are crazy or if I think I am more intelligent than them? How can someone be my boss or leader when their mental capacity is what mine was when I was 10 and leaving cookies out for Santa? This is just my personal opinion and there is nothing I can do about it, I'm not hostile, I'm just realistic. Love you guys, I am going to catch up on your latest show now, #37 I believe. Jody, if I one day come across a windfall I will buy you guys all the equipment you want or need, until then you will have to put in whatever effort you think is necessary to produce a good product for your listeners. I love the great pumpkin, now let me base my life on it, lol...
